Intel Optical Platform Division

Gary Wiseman is General Manager of Intel’s Optical Platform Division, a leading manufacturer of high-speed optical transceivers for enterprise, storage and telecom applications. Gary came to Intel via the acquisition of LightLogic in May 2001, and over the past four years has helped drive Intel into a leadership position in the optics industry. Prior to his current position, Gary was Director of Marketing at Intel and VP Marketing at LightLogic, and before that, held positions in product development, operations, marketing and general management at Raychem. Gary holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from MIT, a BS in Chemistry from Northwestern, and MBA from IMD in Lausanne Switzerland.

Research Interests

George Foster’s teaching and research interests are new venture globalization strategies, sports business management, strategic cost analysis, and business modeling in litigation analysis. He is active in venture capital, and the Silicon Valley business community. He serves on the board of several startups and is an advisor to entrepreneurs. He directs the Executive Program for Growing Companies at Stanford University and works with MBA’s in the development of business plans. His MBA courses on “Startup Globalization Strategies” and “Managing to IPO” are popular electives with students in the business and engineering schools at Stanford. His MBA electives in the sports area are "Sports Business Management" (joint with Bill Walsh), "Sports Business Finance", and "Sports Marketing". Foster received a Bachelor and Master’s Degree in Economics (first class honours and University medal) from The University of Sydney and a Ph.D. degree in business from Stanford University. He also has been awarded honorary doctorates from University of Ghent, Belgium and University of Vaasa, Finland. He has previously taught at University of Chicago and Australian Graduate School of Management. Foster is author or co-author of seven books or monographs, including Financial Statement Analysis and Cost Accounting: A Management Emphasis. He is author or co-author of over 30 articles and has received multiple research awards from academic and business associations. He has also been awarded the Distinguished Teaching Award by the Stanford MBA students. Companies he has worked with include Apple Computer, ARCO, Australian Stock Exchange, Borland, DEC, Exxon Corp., Frito-Lay, Hewlett Packard, McDonald’s Corp., and PepsiCo. He regularly gives executive seminars, including one-day seminars in North and South America, Australia, Asia, and Europe.


Greg Galanos
Managing Director
Mobius Venture Capital

Gregory P. Galanos is a managing director for Mobius Venture Capital. Prior to joining the fund, Mr. Galanos spent 22 years in the software development industry as a developer and entrepreneur. In 1985, he founded Metrowerks, one of the world's leading software development tools providers, producers of the CodeWarrior line of programming tools. He was president and CEO of Metrowerks until 1996 and president and CTO of Metrowerks until August 1999, when it was acquired by Motorola. From September 1999 to January 2000, Mr. Galanos was mandated with the development of the sector software strategy as part of the Office of the President of Motorola's Semiconductor Products Sector (SPS).

Between 1978 and 1985, he assisted in the development of environmental mapping systems (GIS) for the James Bay Development Corporation and developed an extensive local area network for scientists in the Environment Department of Hydro-Quebec in Montreal. Mr. Galanos has extensive experience in managing the development, licensing and deployment of software development tools for desktop, consumer electronics and embedded Internet platforms on a variety of CISC and RISC-based microprocessor architectures.

Greg was born in Fremantle West Australia in 1957 and lived in Perth until 1975. He went on a 'walkabout' from Perth to Paris via Asia (overland) and ended up in Montreal.

Peter Barrett
Chief Technology Officer and General Manager of Engineering, Microsoft TV Division

Barrett serves as chief technology officer and general manager of engineering for the Microsoft TV Division at Microsoft Corporation. Barrett leads Microsoft TV strategic product development and planning and ensures the division’s ongoing innovation in the area of digital TV technologies. His technical vision and leadership were instrumental to the successful launch of the Microsoft TV IPTV Edition and Foundation Edition software platforms, products that were embraced by leading cable and telecommunications companies like Bell Canada, Comcast and SBC.

Recognized as a leading expert in Internet Protocol Television and advanced digital TV software, Barrett is a frequent speaker at industry conferences.
