Are Foreign Wireless Innovations Driving Developments in the US?

ANZA Technology Network in conjunction with the Passport Program presents a panel of international wireless CEOs, founders and VCs who will provide a unique insight into the state of wireless in the US.

On this panel is Bandspeed Co-Founder and CTO, Stan Skafidas Ph.D. from Australia. Stan now successfully operates Bandspeed from Austin Texas.

Stan and the other international panelists are uniquely qualified to provide a fresh outlook on the integration of wireless solutions in the US. They will highlight the areas of opportunity, what their companies are focusing now and in the future and what challenges companies face as wireless integration expands in the US. Panelists include wireless innovators and innovations from Australia, Scandinavia and France.

Panelists Bios:

Daniel Chatelain - Founder and CEO Bozca Corp.
Daniel started his career more than twenty years ago as a pioneer of the Minitel, focusing on banking, telecommunication and media services. He is a serial entrepreneur and has launched several technology ventures within the EADS Group (Airbus, Ariane Espace, Eurocopter) and the Lagard?re Group (Elle, Woman?s Day, Car & Driver, Hachette, Canal Satellite). Most recently, he founded Bozca Corporation in San Francisco, an upcoming player in the wireless security and payment field. Daniel Chatelain graduated in 1982 from the University of France with master's degrees in physics and mathematics, and a specialty in semiconductors. He is on advisory boards of several startups in the Silicon Valley and Europe

Efstratios "Stan" Skafidas, Ph.D., CTO and Co-founder - Bandspeed Inc.
Dr. Skafidas brings vast communications expertise to his role as CTO at Bandspeed. He has co-authored over forty journal publications, international conference papers, and book chapters in the fields of signal processing, communications systems, and control system design. Dr. Skafidas has one patent granted and over 15 patents pending in communication system design, noise mitigation, wireless system design, and signal processing. Dr Skafidas is the co-inventor of Adaptive Frequency Hopping, an industry standardized coexistence technology for Bluetooth and 802.11 systems. Previously, Dr. Skafidas worked on numerous projects relating to high frequency radar, ionospherics, and microwave communication systems design for the Defense Science and Technology Organization at the Australian Department of Defense. Dr. Skafidas received his PhD in Signal Processing from the University of Melbourne in Melbourne, Australia, and is an honorary fellow at the University's Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

Duncan Davidson - Venture Partner , VantagePoint
Duncan Davidson is a Venture Partner working with the Communications sector group and has worked for 15 years with new ventures and alliances in all aspects of broadband technology: networks (DSL, satellite); services (VOD, music, mobile connectivity); and enabling technologies (DRM, WiFi). Previously he was a founder and senior executive at several notable startups, including SkyPilot Network, Covad Communications, and InterTrust Technologies. Before joining InterTrust, Duncan was Managing Partner of Gemini McKenna where he was involved in the planning and formation of some of the most significant efforts to create a "third pipe" alternative to the incumbent telecom and cable companies, including Americast, the interactive television venture of three major phone companies and Disney, and Spaceway, an advanced two-way satellite system developed by Hughes. In the 1980s, he was one of the leading attorneys in intellectual property issues, and authored a seminal report of the American Bar Association on the legal protection of software. Duncan received a BS from Brown University in Physics-Mathematics and a JD from the University of Michigan Law School, where he was a member of the Law Review.

Rob Trice - Nokia, Venture partners (USA)
Rob joined Nokia Venture Partners in January 2001. He came to Nokia Venture Partners from DIRECTV in Los Angeles, where he worked in a variety of operational and business planning roles in the U.S. and overseas. He helped to launch the company's joint venture operations in Japan; worked in the U.S. operation's Customer Service organization; managed the company's projects with the affiliate television networks; and led a number of enterprise-wide initiatives, including the company'sCRM project. Rob has also worked as a policy analyst at the Center for Strategic & International Studies, a think tank in Washington, D.C. He holds an M.A. in International transactions from George Mason University and a B.A. from the University of Virginia in Political Science
