» A Note from the CEO

During a recent trip to Australia I had the pleasure of presenting in front of over 120 executives in Perth and Adelaide. I was supported by 5 CEO’s of ANZA Tech Alumni companies who spoke about their experiences in the US and how ANZA Tech is making a real difference for businesses like theirs as they approach the US market.

Two of those companies were YourAmigo (www.youramigo.com) and Power Solutions (www.power-solutions.com.au) who showcased at the first ANZA Tech conference back in June 2002. Both companies have set up offices in the US and are experiencing growth. We will be highlighting their success stories in future ANZA Tech newsletters.

The power of networking was the important theme at both events as the CEO’s impressed on the audiences that building their network in the US is a critical skill and business process. They personally thanked me for the work ANZA Tech has done over the last four years in building a vibrant and dynamic network.

I in turn thank the hundreds of executives who have engaged with ANZA Tech, who have donated their time and expertise, and who have advocated for the important mission of ANZA Technology Network.

ANZA Tech is making a difference and we are being appreciated by successful entrepreneurs in Australia, New Zealand and the US.

» Can you host Monash and Melbourne IT and MBA Interns this year?

Over the last three years Silicon Valley companies have benefited greatly from hosting outstanding interns from Monash and Melbourne University We are now looking for hosts for the 2005/6 intern program. Doug McCown says it all:

"Over the years I have had several interns that have worked for me and at times the fear is that the amount of training & assistance that has to go into the person may not be worth what the output ends up being. In this case I feel that it has been a "Win-Win" situation.....Flextronics has been able to gain something that we needed but really did not have the time for and in exchange Peter was able to be exposed to a large corporate data warehousing environment which I hope will benefit him as he proceeds out into the business world after his studies complete."

Doug McCown, Director of Data Warehousing, Flextronics Inc.

The 2005/2006 internship program will run from November 2005 – February 2006 and companies for next year’s program are being finalized in March 2005. If you are interested in becoming a part of this exciting opportunity or have any questions, please contact david@anzatechnet.com

The DIGITAL CITY 2005

San Francisco, Philadelphia, Seattle among several other American cities have announced their intention to provide free WIFI for their constituents. A dozen US states have already adopted laws restricting or barring municipalities from offering broadband services. Why all these decisions from the different parties? What is expected by City Halls, Telecom incumbents, service providers, technology providers, and citizens.

The Digital City Forum is a Silicon Valley initiative that will organize a series of 8 events to review the position of the different parties involved in the United States as well as one special event on what is happening abroad.

In  our first event, we have invited officials from the San Francisco, San Jose,  Milpitas and San Carlos Mayor's offices to present their views on this aspect. We want to give them the opportunity to explain the reasons why they have chosen or not to provide free WIFI in their towns.
- What are the services they expect to see?
- How will it work and what technology they have chosen if they chose any.
- Will it really be free?

If you are interested in helping us, let us know as well. You may also forward this invitation to people you know who could be interested.

When: Wednesday April 6th, 6:30PM to 9PM

Program: 6:30PM registration and networking, 7PM: Panel and speakers presentation, 8:30: Q&A

Location: Pillsbury Winthrop LLP, 2475 Hanover Street, Palo Alto, CA 94304
