Adelaide firm judged ‘Hottest Company’ at U.S. IT competition

A South Australian company has taken out the ‘hottest company’ award for the third successive year at a prestigious IT competition held in Silicon Valley, California. The Premier and Minister for the Arts, Mike Rann says Adelaide’s IT and film post-production sector has yet again proved that they’re world-leaders. “I want to congratulate Rising Sun Research on winning the Guy Manson Award for the ‘hottest company’ at the ANZA Technology Network 2006 Gateway to the U.S. conference,” Mr Rann said.

South Australian company Rising Sun was nominated as the hottest company among 14 early-stage Australian technology developers that participated in this year's ANZA Technology Network Showcase conference, held last week at the Plug and Play Tech Centre in the Silicon Valley town of Santa Clara.

Marco Gabbiani recently caught up with Australian expatriate, Jennifer Zanich the CEO of Wedgetail Communications to talk about her experiences in the US and the recent sale of the business to a US acquirer. Wedgetail was founded in 2000 as a spin off from the Co-operative Research Centre (CRC) for Enterprise Distributed Systems Technology (DSTC) in Brisbane. The company announced in July this year that it would be acquired by US enterprise solutions company, Vintela, Inc. This is a landmark transaction because Wedgetail is one of very few commercially successful spin offs from an Australian CRC. Wedgetail was funded by Australian venture capital managers Allen & Buckeridge and Uniseed, a pre-seed stage investment fund ....

A group that was formed to help promote Australian technology companies in California's Silicon Valley expects to increase the attendance at its annual conference in San Francisco in October to 60 companies. Last year, 43 companies attended.
